Currently in Montgomery ISD, elementary schools serve grades PK-4, intermediate serves grade 5, middle serves grade 6, junior high serves grades 7 and 8, and high school serves grades 9-12. During the facility assessment phase, it was realized that by modifying the current grade level alignments, major cost efficiencies could be achieved. In addition, research shows a correlation between fewer school transitions and better student, staff and parent relationships, resulting in a positive increase in student achievement.
This bond allows for a grade realignment to move the fifth grade to the elementary level and the sixth grade in with seventh and eighth grade to form the new middle school level.
As part of the realignment under this bond, existing fifth grade and sixth grade campuses will be used as elementary schools. This alignment will allow for the better use of existing facilities, reduce the number of school transitions for students from five to three, and allow the district to save building two new schools.
